Board of Directors

Guided by experts

Meet the people who continue to generously give their time to advance our mission to destroy pancreatic cancer.

Howard Young, Chairman

In addition to being a dear friend of John Couvillon, Destroy Pancreatic Cancer’s founder, Howard is a long-time advocate and financial supporter for pancreatic cancer research. He has battled the disease three times himself and now is a 15-year survivor. Howard serves as president of General Wholesale Beer Company in Atlanta, GA, and draws on his astute strategic growth skills to help Destroy Pancreatic Cancer advance its mission to fund research and clinical trials so that all patients have “Hope and a Plan.”

Michael P. Broxterman, Vice Chairman

Mike was more than John Couvillon’s business partner; they were dear friends and fully supported one another. Their successful partnership spanned more than 20 years, during which they have grew Pinnacle Health Group to become a leading national physician search firm. Mike now leads the company as President and CEO and brings a practical and strategic approach to organizational growth and sustainability.

Douglas B. Evans, MD, Scientific Medical Advisor

Douglas B. Evans, MD, is arguably one of the foremost authorities in pancreatic cancer research and care. A doctor’s doctor, he is the Donald C. Ausman Family Foundation Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at The Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Evans’ research interests focus on translational laboratory research in the biology of pancreatic cancer and in clinical trial development for patients with localized disease.

He has authored or co-authored 262 journal articles and has edited seven books. He has delivered more than 70 invited lectureships nationally and internationally.

Mark Gelinas
Mark Gelinas, a long-time Atlanta resident was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer the day before Thanksgiving in 2014. His shocking diagnosis came just five days after his engagement to his wife, Donna. He spent the better part of the following year successfully battling his illness, but has endured four recurrences since then. While it’s not unusual for pancreatic cancer to return, Mark’s case was extremely unique in that it metastasized to his brain and spine. Today, Mark shows “no evidence of disease” and is enjoying his life to the fullest.
Mark’s will to survive pancreatic cancer is a testament to his unwavering commitment to help destroy this disease for everyone who follows. Mark also authored the book “Gel Strong, My Cancer Journey,” which started as a personal journal. You can order a copy here. A portion of the proceeds go to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA, where Mark received his treatment.

Our mission is simple—To destroy pancreatic cancer.
Our promise is guaranteed—To fund and advance research that leads to earlier detection and improved treatment options.
Our goal is within reach—To establish Hope and a Plan for all pancreatic cancer patients. The hope comes from the research and clinical trials performed under a true collaborative model. The plan supports today's patients in quickly developing a strategy to win the battle against pancreatic cancer.
